They Would Be Good For Nothing

by Jim Rapp

Given a choice, they’d
choose to do good, but not
if it cost much cash.

Name-hounds, they envied
the glory others had got
so they acted rash;

Good names, got free would
become cinders as the hot
flames consumed the stash.

Ananias, he,
Saphira, she – both had sought
a name by their swash;

Ananias, he,
Saphira, she – both had bought
a grave with their cash.
