(That which denies Christ)
by Jim Rapp
Haiku Format

The surest road to
heaven runs right straight through the
RNC, no lie.

Dr. James Dobson
knows the person who led Mr.
Trump to faith in Christ.

He’s not telling us,
of course; Trump truths stand on their
own; no proof needed.

It has long been a
fact that all Republican
nominees “know Christ.”

The Donald is now
“a babe in Christ,” says Dobson;
we must cut him slack;

even the great Paul
times, until he learned to

talk like a Christian.
So Dobson believes – or wants
the rest of us to.

plug your ears while Trump learns to
talk like a Christian.

breathe a sigh, while cutting a
Paul-sized chunk of slack.

Paul, who opened his
arms to male and female, to
Gentile and Jew.

Paul who preached that the
Gospel destroyed barriers,
not constructed walls.

A majority
of Evangelicals now
follow Mr. Trump;

that should signal to
followers of Christ it is
time to follow Christ.

Eighty and Counting (on More)

by Jim Rapp

Eighty is what I’ve got.
I know a lady who’s got
one hundred and seven,
another who’s got
one hundred of them,
and a flock of others
who’ve collected
ninety or more.

We never get too many;
like billionaires, unable
to turn away another dollar,
we find a purpose for
one more, and then
another, until we’ve
gotten more than our
creaking frames can bear,
and still we end each year
planning what we’d do
if given another.

The least we can do
is receive each gift
with thankfulness
to the Giver of years;
to restrict our complaints;
to find some good in the
world we daily hope
to be a part of.

Least of all, let us not
spoil the fun for those
who run upon the hills
that once trembled under
the gait of our insistence.

They Would Be Good For Nothing

by Jim Rapp

Given a choice, they’d
choose to do good, but not
if it cost much cash.

Name-hounds, they envied
the glory others had got
so they acted rash;

Good names, got free would
become cinders as the hot
flames consumed the stash.

Ananias, he,
Saphira, she – both had sought
a name by their swash;

Ananias, he,
Saphira, she – both had bought
a grave with their cash.

How many flags, Hillary?
How many for you, Donald?
What is your count, Bernie?
This flag waving’s getting old.

Old Glory waves over Perkins
in oversized glory, and even
hangs at our porn store, adornin’,
our oversized passion and sin.

It really is a desecration,
when politicians try to prove
their bona fides by misdirection,
wrapping themselves in red, white and blue.

Forgetting the flag calibrations -
“I’m flying more flags that you” -
how about a real declaration
of policies they will pursue,

Let’s make it illegal in election years
to display Old Glory for anything less
than the death of a leader or soldier;
pols can use banners; give the flag a rest.
