Worlds In Waiting

by Jim Rapp

Summer swamps can make you wish
you had mastered your Biology.
Standing at their edge the swish
of hidden creatures naturally
evokes primordial fish.

Only ancient life would wrap
itself in swamp; make its habitat
in emerald slime that laps
against a sea of broken reeds that
constitute its feeding traps.

Swamps are indisputably
primal backwaters of creation;
puddles intentionally
left to cradle the ideation
of a world that’s yet to be.
