         (Carry Over Rhyme)
by Rena Faye (Kennerly) Rapp

Raging winds like demons howling,
Yowling, moaning through the night,
Piling snowdrifts onto highways,
Byways blocked ere morning's light.

Cattle huddled all together,
Weather–wise these critters be,
Seeking warmth from one another,
Brothers they and brotherly.

Would that we could band together,
Weather all the storms of life,
As the cattle in the blizzard,
Wizard–wise and without strife.

Specimen poem published in Tejas, October 1967.
