Because You Asked

           Because You Asked
  (A poem-response to a question)
                            by Jim Rapp

You asked – or wondered at –
The meaning of happiness. You guessed
Quite rightly of its roots; that
Happiness – gay Happiness – when pressed
Admits her "joy" is made of happenings;
Of things, and moods, and times
That pass away.

Her sister, Joy – less often sought,
Because she can't be found by seeking –
Her sources twain, and naught
But twain can bring her into being –
Comes only when the seeing eye beholds
The giving Hand, responds with Joy,
And then rejoices.
